Personal Code of Ethics:

This code of ethics seeks to give anyone who may read it an overview of my personal beliefs system and moral code. As I enter the professional world, these are the statements and ethical systems that I hope to abide by and that shape me and my work. I hope all who could potentially work with me in the future know that I will always strive to meet these criteria to the best of my abilities.

  1. Honesty: I believe that being honest is of the utmost importance in conducting any type of work with others. Regardless of whether it may be the tougher choice to make, I will always engage in work and practices that are honest to all parties involved.

  2. Integrity: Continuing with making tougher choices, I will strive to always make the decisions that are morally right, even when they could be detrimental or nobody might notice. I am a firm believer that acting with integrity when it may initially hurt you, typically reaps more positive benefits in the long-run, and that is something that I will practice heavily.

  3. Passion: I want to ensure that anyone who I may be working with or for will always get my 100% effort. I strive to attack all challenges and obstacles to the best of my abilities and want to ensure that I am never giving less effort than is required or needed of me.

  4. Respect: Those who work in any capacity with me will always garner my full attention and respect. From top-levels to the bottom, all opinions should and will be valued by me and I never want anyone to feel as though they have to talk up or down to me. This is especially true on social channels, as I will always choose to engage in thoughtful discourse, rather than stimulating arguments or immature responses from a computer or phone.

  5. Loyalty: When I commit to something, I strive to actually fulfill that commitment. It is my duty to act to full capacity on projects and work and to stay faithful to those who entrust their endeavors in me and my skill set.

Statement on Diversity: Diversity should not only be emphasized, but celebrated across professional activities. It is statistically proven that teams and organizations with diverse backgrounds are more productive and accomplish more than those who aren’t, and I want to contribute to that as well. In everything I do I want to ensure that I am nullifying any perceptions or unconscious biases to the best of my abilities because that is truly what is best for everyone. When we are all equal in every aspect, we work better, and we work together.

Ethics and diversity obviously play a large role in PR because many people look at these two things in various ways. As practitioners, it is our job to help everyone find the lines that work in society, while still encouraging and allowing people to hold their own set of moral beliefs. Diversity is especially important to our field as without a diverse field of practitioners helping to guide the principles and morality that come with ethics, we wouldn’t have as defined of a set of ethics to live by. When we are more diverse, we are open to more perspectives that help us to understand what is acceptable and what isn’t.
